A tragic road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge has left one woman dead and her 30-year-old daughter injured but alive after a violent collision involving two vehicles.
The incident occurred at the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis of the bridge and involved two à, Sienna vehicles. Eyewitness reports and preliminary findings attributed the crash to excessive speeding and loss of control by one of the drivers.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the accident, stating that its officers, who were on routine patrol, quickly responded to a distress call from motorists.
The operatives secured the crash scene and immediately worked to restore traffic flow along the busy corridor.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force also arrived at the scene to document the incident, evacuate the wreckage, and commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities confirmed that one adult female died on the spot due to the severity of the impact, while her daughter survived the collision. The identities of the victims have not yet been released to the public.

In a related development, officials disclosed that one of the drivers involved in the crash fled the scene, while the other was apprehended and handed over to the police for further questioning and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned reckless driving and reiterated that over-speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents in Lagos State.
Authorities have again urged motorists to observe speed limits and drive cautiously, especially on high-traffic routes like the Third Mainland Bridge, to prevent further avoidable tragedies.
