A resident of Mittiri Village in Yobe State, identified as Ibrahim Mittiri, has reportedly confessed to falsely accusing a local hunter of being a member of Boko Haram over a lingering personal dispute.
According to security sources, the incident began on May 24 after Mittiri allegedly informed another villager, Umar Abdullahi, also known as Gajeri, that the hunter, Aji Ibrahim, had links to the terrorist group.

The allegation was later passed to troops of Operation Hadin Kai Sector 2, leading to the hunter’s arrest for questioning.
However, preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the accusation stemmed from a seven-year-old dispute between Mittiri and the hunter, a matter said to still be before a court.
During interrogation, Mittiri allegedly admitted that the claim was false and motivated by personal grievances. He was also said to have confessed that he intended to get the hunter arrested and subjected to harsh treatment by security operatives.
Investigators further discovered that Mittiri and Umar Abdullahi were allegedly involved in intelligence gathering activities for local groups and had been receiving monthly stipends for their roles.
Both suspects have since been arrested and are expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution over false accusations and misuse of security processes.
