The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has impounded 84 commercial and private vehicles for various traffic violations during a weekend enforcement operation across parts of the state.
The enforcement was carried out in areas including Idumota, Iddo, Ijora-Olopa, Costain and Onipanu to tackle traffic violations and improve road safety.
LASTMA said some of its personnel were assaulted and injured by suspected miscreants who resisted the operation, while some operational vehicles were reportedly damaged. Suspected attackers were also apprehended.
The agency expressed particular concern over commercial buses reversing against traffic along the one-way stretch from Iddo to Idumota through Cater Bridge, describing the practice as a serious danger to other road users.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, warned motorists, commercial bus operators and transport unions against illegal parking, dangerous reversing, driving against traffic, indiscriminate loading and the use of under-bridge spaces and road setbacks as illegal garages.
The agency said further violations would attract appropriate enforcement measures under Lagos State traffic laws.
Members of the public can report dangerous driving, traffic obstructions and other traffic violations through LASTMA’s toll-free short code, 3367.
