The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 80 suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, six vehicles and other exhibits during various operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed this on Wednesday at a press conference held at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
He said the arrests and recoveries were recorded between October 1 and 7 as part of ongoing operations against armed robbery, vandalism, traffic robbery, fraudulent recruitment and other criminal activities.
According to Tijani, the recovered weapons included four Beretta pistols, eight locally made pistols and four rounds of live 9mm ammunition.
Other items recovered included six mobile phones, six battle axes, four cutlasses, a toy gun, five sacks of illicit drugs, vandalised iron materials and electrical wires.
The commissioner said nine suspects were arrested in connection with alleged vandalism along the Coastal Road, while 19 others were apprehended over alleged fraudulent job recruitment in Tori-Lovi Community, Age-Mowo.
He said the 19 suspects, comprising 17 males and two females, allegedly deceived members of the public with fake employment opportunities.
Tijani also disclosed that 29 suspects were arrested over alleged traffic robbery along the Lekki-Epe axis.
A 43-year-old suspected receiver of stolen vehicles was arrested at Ishawo Agric, Ikorodu, with four vehicles and seven vehicle number plates recovered from him.
The vehicles included a black Lexus RX 330 Jeep, a 2018 white Toyota Camry, a 1999 white Toyota Camry and a red Ford vehicle.
The suspect allegedly received the vehicles from a member of a three-man criminal gang, while the other members are still at large.
The police commissioner added that 14 suspects were arrested in Maroko over alleged public nuisance, while a suspected gang leader was apprehended over the alleged attack and robbery of a military officer and his family in Itire.
Tijani said the incident occurred on October 4 when hoodlums allegedly blocked the victim’s vehicle, assaulted him and his wife, stole N300,000 and vandalised their vehicle.
The command also arrested a 28-year-old suspect accused of drugging a female victim and stealing three mobile phones worth N3.02 million from her apartment in Ikeja.
According to the commissioner, the suspect allegedly gave the woman juice mixed with a substance suspected to be a hard drug before taking the phones.
Three other suspects, aged between 25 and 38, were arrested over alleged armed robbery and phone-snatching incidents around Westminster and Marine Bridge, with three mobile phones recovered.
Police also arrested another suspect and recovered a stolen 2015 Toyota Corolla, which was allegedly taken from his uncle in Enugu and brought to Lagos for disposal.
