A university staff member also confirmed that the institution was aware of a shooting incident in one of the off-campus residential areas, describing it as the second security-related incident in the area within four weeks.
The staff member expressed concern over the safety of students residing outside the campus, noting that the university currently has accommodation capacity for only about 1,000 students out of its nearly 20,000 student population.
He added that the university management, under Vice-Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best, was making efforts to expand accommodation and improve security in collaboration with relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain comments from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over insecurity in Bokkos, with calls growing for security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted student and protect residents of the university community.
