
No fewer than nine people have lost their lives, while 17 others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a fatal road accident along the Kankia–Katsina Road in Katsina State.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday night at Kwanar Gidan Mutum Daya, involved a Toyota Hummer commercial bus and a trailer transporting unspecified goods.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), a total of 26 passengers were involved in the accident, which happened at approximately 8:03 p.m.
The Katsina Sector Command disclosed that rescue teams were immediately deployed after receiving a distress call.
Speaking through the Sector Public Education Officer, Deputy Route Commander Shamsudeen Babajo, the FRSC confirmed that emergency responders from the RS1.35 Kankia Unit Command arrived at the scene within 23 minutes and began rescue operations in collaboration with other agencies.

The impact of the collision left several victims with serious injuries, including fractures and deep cuts.
Tragically, four of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition after the commercial bus reportedly caught fire moments after the crash.
All injured victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Kankia for urgent medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital morgue.
The FRSC extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The agency also confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the accident.
In light of the incident, the corps urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, avoid speeding and reckless driving, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy especially as travel increases during the Eid-el-Kabir period.
