The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has dismissed reports claiming that its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, was arrested and detained by the police following the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
FUOYE Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Dr. Sunday Saanu, described the reports as “entirely false, baseless, and deliberately fabricated.”
According to the university, Prof. Ogunwole, who served as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Chief Returning Officer for the Osun governorship election, has neither been arrested nor detained by the police or any other security agency.
The university explained that Ogunwole successfully carried out his responsibilities as Returning Officer and declared the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the election after the conclusion of the electoral process.

FUOYE further disclosed that the Vice Chancellor travelled from Oye-Ekiti to Abuja on Monday to attend to official university matters and remains fully engaged in his administrative duties.
The institution urged members of the public to disregard the reports, warning against the spread of unverified claims on social media.
FUOYE management also condemned what it described as the deliberate circulation of false information capable of creating unnecessary anxiety within the university community and among members of the public.
The university reassured stakeholders that Prof. Ogunwole remains free and continues to perform his duties as Vice Chancellor, while working to advance academic excellence and institutional development at FUOYE.
