
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects over a violent clash between farmers and herders in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man and the burning of houses.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 23, 2026, after three farmers discovered cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops on Guda Hill.
According to the police, the farmers chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement, where an argument broke out and escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving the three farmers injured.
The situation later deteriorated when some youths from Guda Village allegedly mobilised in retaliation and set fire to houses in the herders’ settlement.
Police officers from the Ningi Division responded to the incident, restored calm and evacuated the injured farmers to General Hospital Ningi for medical treatment. However, one of the victims, identified as Usman Jibrin, later died while receiving treatment.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the four suspects were arrested on October 8 following intelligence-led operations.

The suspects are being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for a thorough and discreet investigation.
The commissioner also expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and those whose properties were destroyed, assuring residents that justice would be served.
He warned against taking the law into one’s hands and urged farming and herding communities to embrace dialogue, peaceful coexistence and lawful means of resolving disputes.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that those found culpable are brought to justice.
