Former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Colonel Peter Kolawole Obasa, has died at the age of 81.
Obasa reportedly died on Monday, September 28, 2026. He served as the third Chief Executive of the NYSC between 1979 and 1984.
The NYSC management expressed grief over his death, describing him as one of the early administrators who played a role in shaping the scheme’s administrative structure.

The current NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, paid a condolence visit to Obasa’s family in Ilorin, Kwara State.
During the visit, Nafiu acknowledged Obasa’s contributions to the development of the NYSC and said the organisation would continue to build on the foundations established by its early leaders.
He also prayed for the repose of Obasa’s soul and extended condolences to his family and the wider NYSC community.
