
A fire outbreak has destroyed goods and property worth several million naira in a one-storey building located on Ozubulu Street, near Bida Road in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, caused significant damage but fortunately recorded no casualties.
According to reports, the fire is suspected to have started in an area where flammable materials, including cartons and stored goods, were kept. However, the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be confirmed as investigations are ongoing.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the fire raged for several minutes before firefighters arrived at the scene. They noted that the response team faced challenges accessing the location due to difficult terrain and poor visibility.

Officials of the Anambra State Fire Service responded promptly after receiving a distress call at about 2:24 a.m., deploying personnel and equipment to contain the situation.
Their swift intervention prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Firefighting operations were successfully concluded around 6:05 a.m., with no lives lost, no injuries recorded, and no individuals trapped during the incident.
Residents and business owners have been advised to adhere strictly to fire safety measures, especially when handling or storing flammable materials, and to report emergencies promptly to avoid similar occurrences.
As of Friday, some affected property owners were seen salvaging items from the damaged structure.
