The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified enforcement against the use of tinted vehicles in Abuja, impounding more than 30 vehicles found in violation of traffic regulations.
The operation, which targets vehicles with tinted glass, concealed number plates, and improper registration, is part of a broader strategy to combat rising insecurity in the nation’s capital.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed that the enforcement followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, authorizing strict implementation of the ban.
According to Sanusi, intelligence reports reveal that criminals frequently exploit tinted vehicles and obscured number plates to evade detection while carrying out crimes such as kidnapping, one-chance robberies, and other violent offenses.
“This exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens, but to deny criminal elements the cover they use to perpetrate crimes,” he stated.

He confirmed that over 30 vehicles have already been seized since the commencement of the operation, adding that offenders will be prosecuted in line with the FCT Road Transport Regulations Act, 2023, and other applicable laws.
The police commissioner urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and remain vigilant by reporting suspicious activities through designated emergency channels.
The crackdown comes amid lingering uncertainty surrounding the Nigeria Police Force’s tinted glass permit policy, which was suspended earlier in 2026 following a court order. It remains unclear whether the suspension has been lifted.
Authorities say the ongoing enforcement is part of sustained efforts to strengthen security and ensure safer communities across the Federal Capital Territory.
