
Members of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers have been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of one of their staff members, Jessey A. Audu, who reportedly collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday in Abuja.
The incident occurred in Gwagwalada Area Council, where the deceased was said to have left his residence in good health on his way to work before suddenly slumping near an army checkpoint in the area.
He reportedly fell into a nearby drainage, drawing the attention of passersby.
A staff member of the union, Ibrahim Adamu, explained that concerned residents discovered Audu lying in the drainage and quickly raised the alarm.
With the help of police officers, he was identified and his colleagues were contacted.
He was subsequently rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.

His remains were later deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
Further findings revealed that Audu worked as a cleaner with the FCT NUT office.
He was a native of Yelwa community in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and resided in Unguwar Dodo, Gwagwalada.
He was married with children.
The Chairman of the FCT wing of the union, Comrade Mohammed Abdullahi Shafas, confirmed the incident, expressing sadness over the loss.
He noted that the union had taken custody of the remains.
Colleagues of the deceased described him as hardworking and dedicated, stating that he had carried out his duties as usual the previous day and showed no signs of illness.
A police source at the Gwagwalada Division also confirmed the incident.
The sudden nature of his death has left coworkers and members of the union in shock as they continue to mourn the loss.
