The family of a 22-year-old university student, Ayomide Aiguokhian, is demanding justice following his death in an alleged electrocution incident at a Chinese-owned factory in Mowe, Ogun State.
Ayomide, a 400-level student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, reportedly died on September 8, 2026, while working at the factory during his holiday.
His father, Smart Aiguokhian, accused the company’s management of negligence, alleging that the family was not promptly informed about the incident. He said he learnt of his son’s death after receiving a call from a mortuary attendant the following morning.
The family’s lawyer, Fidelis Irinsanmi of Kunlesanmi Chambers, also alleged that an exposed machine caused the electrocution and accused the company of failing to handle the incident appropriately.

The family has demanded compensation and threatened to institute a civil lawsuit seeking ₦300 million if the matter is not resolved.
However, a company representative, identified as Mr Victory, denied that the management deliberately failed to contact the family. He maintained that efforts were made to save the student’s life and reach his parents after the incident.
According to the representative, the company and the family have been discussing compensation but have yet to reach an agreement. He also stated that the company was willing to conduct an autopsy to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about workplace safety, employers’ responsibilities and the need for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young student’s death.
The family continues to seek accountability as discussions over compensation remain unresolved.
