A former member of the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Olusegun Williams, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Williams, who served two terms in the House of Representatives, announced his defection on Monday in Abeokuta, where he was formally welcomed into the PDP alongside his supporters.
Speaking at the event, the former lawmaker described the PDP as his original political home, saying he was returning to the party after spending time in the APC.
He said some friends and political associates had previously advised him to join the PDP, but he eventually found himself in the APC for reasons he did not disclose.

Williams also criticised the political structure of the APC, alleging that the party had become like a cult, with increasing reliance on political proxies.
He said his experience in building the APC gave him enough knowledge of the party’s activities.
The former lawmaker appreciated the PDP governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, and other party leaders for facilitating his return.
According to him, Adebutu invited him to join the PDP through a telephone conversation, after which he consulted his supporters before accepting the offer.
Williams urged PDP members to remain united and work towards strengthening the party, expressing confidence in its participation in the next governorship election in Ogun State.
Welcoming him, Adebutu said political parties should be allowed to present their achievements and seek voters’ support through democratic processes rather than attempts to weaken opposition parties.
He added that efforts to frustrate the PDP and its candidates would not stop the party from carrying out its activities across the state.
Also speaking, the PDP candidate for Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, called on members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and remain committed to the party, regardless of gifts or inducements from rival political parties.
