
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Benue State, Hon. Comrade Abba Yaro, reportedly escaped unhurt after suspected political thugs attacked him during a burial ceremony in Okpoga, Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.
Yaro was attending the burial of the late Raymond Ogwuche when the incident occurred. He was reportedly speaking alongside Hon. Chief Vincent Okoko Odo, popularly known as Hon. Tula, when the attackers allegedly began throwing bottles and stones at them.
Yaro and Odo were said to have managed to escape the scene without sustaining injuries.

The Ogbadibo Progressives Congress (OPC), which condemned the incident, described it as an assault on political tolerance in Benue South and called on security agencies to investigate the attack, identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.
The group also urged political actors in Benue State to reject violence and embrace issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It further appealed for calm among its members and supporters while calling on stakeholders to promote peaceful participation in political activities across the state.
