The family of late Ugwu Susan Chinyere has appealed for justice following her alleged murder by her boyfriend, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, in Enugu State.
The family is also seeking legal assistance from lawyers in Nsukka to help ensure that the suspect is prosecuted.
Chinyere’s sister made the appeal in a video, urging Nigerians and legal practitioners to support the family in their quest for justice.
She said although legal action would not bring her sister back, the family wanted those responsible for her death to face the law.
The appeal came after the Enugu State Police Command arrested 30-year-old Emmanuel over the alleged killing of his girlfriend and concealment of her remains inside the toilet of his apartment at Olympic Layout, One-Day area of Enugu South Local Government Area.
Police said the suspect was arrested on September 21, 2026, after neighbours reportedly noticed a strong offensive odour coming from his apartment.
According to the police, the decomposing remains were discovered inside the toilet after neighbours forced their way into the apartment.
The police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said Emmanuel was initially rescued from an angry mob before being taken into police custody by officers from the Awkunanaw Division.
Police investigations reportedly indicated that the woman was allegedly killed on September 19 following an argument between her and Emmanuel.
The command said the suspect allegedly told investigators that the disagreement involved accusations over who infected the other with HIV.

According to the police account, Emmanuel allegedly struck the woman on the head with a pestle, leading to her death. He then allegedly wrapped her remains in nylon and concealed them inside the toilet.
The victim’s remains were subsequently taken to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing continued.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation and ordered that the suspect be arraigned after the conclusion of investigations.
The police also advised members of the public, particularly young women, to exercise caution about the people they visit or spend time with and keep trusted relatives or friends informed about their movements.
