The Enugu State Forest Guard (ENSFG) has recorded major successes in a series of intelligence-led security operations carried out on Friday, July 31, 2026, across Nsukka and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas, rescuing a kidnap victim, arresting three suspects, recovering stolen property, and foiling another attempted abduction.
In one operation in Nsukka LGA, Forest Guard operatives working alongside members of the local hunters’ association rescued Mrs. Asadu Calistar of Opkuje Community, who was allegedly abducted while working on her farm with her children along the Anuka Road axis.
Security operatives reportedly acted on credible intelligence and launched a search-and-rescue mission that led to a gun battle with the kidnappers. The victim was rescued unharmed, while one suspected kidnapper was arrested.
Three other suspects escaped into the surrounding forest. The rescued victim and the arrested suspect were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation, while efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation in Uzo-Uwani LGA, operatives of the Ogboli Forest Guard, working with the Ogurugu and Ojjor Neighbourhood Watch groups, arrested Ugbedeojo John and Chidi Adaji for allegedly transporting two dismantled stolen motorcycles.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the motorcycles had been stripped, with their engines and other major parts allegedly sold in Adani. The remaining parts recovered during the operation were later identified by their owner, Edwin Dibiagu. The suspects and recovered exhibits were also transferred to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Later that same day, at about 6:20 p.m., the Forest Guard foiled an attempted kidnapping along the Opi–Agu-Agu–Ekwegbe–Agu-Ukehe (Ugwuogo) Road in Nsukka LGA.
According to the command, suspected armed kidnappers emerged from a nearby forest and opened fire on a passing Toyota Sienna and other motorists in an attempt to force vehicles to stop. Responding to a distress call, Forest Guard operatives and officers of the Nigeria Police Force’s Distress Response Squad engaged the attackers in a gunfight, forcing them to flee into the forest without abducting anyone.
Security personnel recovered several spent 7.62mm cartridge cases believed to have been fired from AK-pattern rifles. Joint search operations remain ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
The Enugu State Forest Guard commended its personnel, the Nigeria Police Force, local hunters, and neighbourhood watch groups for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies.
