An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced a fake doctor, Olatide Emmanuel, to death by hanging for causing the death of a woman during a childbirth operation.
The 48-year-old was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge bordering on murder and impersonation after he allegedly posed as a qualified medical doctor and carried out a surgical operation that led to the death of Bosede Falade.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on June 24, 2019, at a private clinic operated by the defendant in Erinmope Ekiti.
Emmanuel was said to have falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and performed a Caesarean section on the pregnant woman despite lacking the proper training and certification.
An eyewitness, Reverend Omotade, told investigators that he was contacted by the deceased’s husband after the woman died shortly after the procedure.

Upon arriving at the clinic, he noticed that the operation appeared to have been carried out in an unprofessional manner, prompting him to alert the police.
During the trial, Emmanuel claimed he had opened the clinic after completing a nursing apprenticeship in Lagos State.
He also told the court that the deceased had come to him for delivery and that both she and her husband agreed to the Caesarean section.
He maintained that the surgery was initially successful and that both the mother and the baby were alive afterward, but said the woman later developed complications and died.
However, the prosecution presented seven witnesses and tendered medical reports, statements, and photographs to prove that the defendant was not qualified to perform the operation and that his actions led to the woman’s death.
In his judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Jubril Aladejana, ruled that the defendant acted with reckless disregard for human life by performing surgery without proper medical training.
The court held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and found Emmanuel guilty of the charges.
Justice Aladejana subsequently sentenced him to death by hanging, declaring that he should be hanged by the neck until he is dead.
