The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has sealed the operational premises of nine companies in Utesi community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, over alleged outstanding tax liabilities amounting to ₦8.982 billion.
The enforcement exercise affected nine corporate entities, predominantly Chinese-owned businesses, accused of failing to meet their statutory tax obligations to the state government.
The affected companies include Rongtai Plastic Company Limited, Rongtai Hardware Limited, Rongtai Energy Technology Company Limited, Rongtai Building Materials Company Limited and Rongtai Food Company Limited.
Others are Five Star Wire and Cable Company, Xin Guo Technology Nigeria Limited, Changrong Wood Nigeria Limited and Shunda Nigeria Enterprise.
According to the Head of Corporate Communications and Taxpayers Enlightenment Service of the EIRS, Courage Eboigbe, the companies allegedly defaulted on several tax obligations, including failure to register their employees for Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax, submit annual employers’ tax returns, and deduct and remit PAYE taxes as required by law.
Eboigbe disclosed that the revenue service had earlier issued individual tax assessment notices to the affected companies, clearly stating their respective outstanding liabilities.

He added that despite repeated reminders and demands for compliance, the companies failed to settle their outstanding tax obligations, prompting the agency to commence enforcement proceedings.
The premises were subsequently sealed in line with valid court orders.
The EIRS spokesperson further stated that the enforcement action would remain in place until the affected companies fully settled their outstanding tax liabilities.
He explained that the seals would only be removed after the companies had complied with the payment requirements.
The development underscores the Edo State Government’s renewed efforts to strengthen tax compliance, improve revenue generation and ensure that businesses operating within the state meet their statutory financial obligations.
