LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has detained a Chinese national, Bai Quang, over allegations of sexual assault and repeated unwanted sexual advances towards his Nigerian employee, identified as Charles Nwafor.
Quang was reportedly arrested following a petition by Nwafor, who alleged that his employer repeatedly made unwanted advances towards him despite his objections and later assaulted him after he rejected the advances.
According to a police source, one of the alleged incidents occurred when Quang reportedly pulled down Nwafor’s trousers and touched his private parts without his consent.
The source further alleged that Quang later invited Nwafor to a hotel under the pretext of discussing a business transaction, where he allegedly attempted to force him into unwanted sexual activity.
Nwafor reportedly rejected the advances and subsequently approached the police to formally report the matter.
The police source also alleged that Quang threatened Nwafor and terminated his employment after the complainant refused to comply with his alleged demands.

Following the petition, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, reportedly directed that the case be transferred from the Hausa Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.
The investigation is being handled by the Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Section of the SCID under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department, Dayo Akinbisehin.
The Chinese Embassy is also being notified of the arrest and detention, in line with established procedures involving foreign nationals.
The police said investigators were working to establish the facts surrounding the allegations and determine the appropriate legal action based on the outcome of the investigation.
“The suspect is in safe custody while investigation is ongoing,” the police source said.
The development comes amid the recent restructuring of the Lagos State SCID into specialised units and sections designed to strengthen the investigation of emerging and specialised crimes.
The police said the Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Crimes Section was established to handle criminal cases involving non-Nigerians in Lagos and improve coordination between the police and foreign diplomatic missions.
Quang remains in police custody as investigations into the allegations continue. The allegations have not been proven in court.
