An artisan has died after reportedly being electrocuted while clearing weeds from the roof of a shopping plaza in Aba, Abia State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, September 22, 2026, around the plaza area of Ehi Road, following heavy rainfall in the city.
The young man, whose identity was yet to be confirmed at the time of the report, was said to have been engaged to clear weeds on the roof of the building.
He reportedly lost his balance after stepping on the slippery roof surface and subsequently came into contact with live electrical wires supplying power to the building.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim screamed after touching the wires, noting that electricity supply was on when the incident occurred.
The incident reportedly caused panic around the shopping centre, with residents and passersby gathering at the scene as they mourned the worker.
Some residents called on property owners to ensure that high-tension and other electrical wires are properly positioned away from buildings to prevent similar incidents.
As of the time of filing the report, relevant Abia State government agencies and the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement on the incident.
