Former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige’s convoy was attacked today along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
Ngige was not in the convoy at the time, according to his former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe.
During the attack, a policeman in the pilot car was shot, and his gun and uniform were reportedly taken by assailants dressed in police and army uniforms.
Tragically, a woman recording the incident on her phone was shot dead.
A shop owner who ran to the scene was also shot but is stable and expected to undergo surgery to remove the bullets.
The pilot car was riddled with gunfire, but no police officers were killed. The escort leader who was injured has undergone surgery and is expected to recover fully.
Chukwuelobe stated that Ngige has extended condolences to the family of the deceased woman and confirmed that all necessary measures are being taken to care for the injured.
The Anambra State Police are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
