The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun State has investigated a complaint by two corps members who alleged that they were unable to receive medical attention at the General Hospital in Iwo.
The investigation followed a video that went viral on social media, featuring Olaode Testimony and his friend, Olusegun Victor, who are both serving in Ayedire Local Government Area of the state.
In the video, the corps members recounted their experience at the hospital after reportedly experiencing symptoms of suspected food poisoning.
Testimony said they arrived at the hospital at about 10:05 pm in search of medical assistance but were unable to receive the treatment they needed.
However, during an investigation by the NYSC Osun State Secretariat, he provided additional details about their experience, clarifying that they were not completely unattended to upon arrival.
He explained that a security officer received them and directed them to a nurse, but the nurse could not attend to their medical needs.
Testimony also revealed that Victor had visited the same hospital earlier that afternoon and received treatment. Their unsuccessful attempt to obtain medical attention occurred during a subsequent visit at night.
He added that they later went to a pharmacy in Iwo, where they eventually received assistance.
The NYSC investigation further established that the corps member did not contact the appropriate officials through the emergency communication channels provided by the scheme.
According to the findings, he failed to reach his Local Government Inspector (LGI), Zonal Inspector, Corps Liaison Officer or State Coordinator before seeking assistance elsewhere.
The scheme explained that corps members are provided with the contact details of these officials during orientation to ensure they can receive timely support whenever emergencies arise.
