The family of late businessman Solomon Iwerebor has called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into his suspected murder, insisting that anyone found responsible must face prosecution.
The deceased’s brother, Justin, and his wife, Anthonia, were arrested on Monday in connection with his death. Solomon was reportedly living with the couple before he died.
Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Solomon’s sisters, Stella Iwerebor and Udo Hamis, alongside their lawyer, Dr Charles Mekwunye, SAN, expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding his death.

The family said they were particularly disturbed by the lack of information about what happened to Solomon and the inability to locate his remains.
Solomon, who lived in Germany with his wife and children, had reportedly visited Nigeria and stayed with his brother and sister-in-law. His family said they had not seen him for more than two years.
According to the family, they only received information about his death from third parties on September 6, several days after he reportedly died.
They said nobody informed them that he was ill before his death. They also claimed they had been unable to identify the hospital where he was allegedly treated or establish the whereabouts of his body.
The family said they wanted the police to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death and ensure that the investigation was not compromised.
They also questioned why they were not informed until four days after his death, describing the situation as painful, especially because another family member had become a suspect in the case.
Before the arrests, the family’s lawyer had petitioned the Lagos State Police Command, requesting a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The petition sought details of the hospital in Benin City, Edo State, where Solomon was allegedly taken, including his medical records and information about his remains.
The case was subsequently referred to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, where the suspects were reportedly invited for questioning.
However, the family alleged that the Zone 2 Command attempted to take over the investigation, prompting them to petition the Inspector-General of Police on October 23, 2026.
In the petition, they claimed that the suspects had earlier failed to honour police invitations from Panti. They also expressed concern about transferring the case to Zone 2, which they said lacked a homicide division.
The family asked the Inspector-General of Police to return the investigation to Panti and ensure that the final report was submitted to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation for appropriate legal action.
Following the arrests, the family urged the police not to release the suspects prematurely or allow any external pressure to interfere with the investigation.
They further demanded that investigators establish the whereabouts of Solomon’s remains and prevent any attempt to move, bury or cremate the body before necessary examinations are conducted.
The family also called for an autopsy and other forensic examinations to determine the actual cause of death.
