The Niger State Police Command has arrested six suspects following a violent altercation reportedly triggered by a ₦100 food purchase in Zoma Village, Ibeto District, Magama Local Government Area, which left one person dead.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, following a disagreement between a man identified as Rabiu Garba and a 15-year-old food vendor, Azima Abubakar, over the payment for food.
According to a report by conflict reporter and counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Garba allegedly returned to the teenager after purchasing food worth ₦100, demanding change and claiming he had paid with a ₦1,000 note.
However, Abubakar reportedly maintained that Garba had paid the exact amount for the food purchased, leading to a heated argument that eventually escalated into a physical confrontation.
The situation reportedly worsened when the teenager’s brother, Abdulrashid Mohammadu, joined the dispute alongside four of Garba’s brothers, identified as Garba Kurte, Garba Ibrahim, Garba Abdullahi and Bello Garba.
The ensuing fight left several people with serious injuries. The injured individuals were subsequently rushed to Ibeto Hospital for medical attention.
Mohammadu later died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Police reportedly received information about the incident at the Nasko Police Division at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, following a report from the Officer-in-Charge of the Ibeto Police Outstation.
Following the incident, six suspects were arrested in connection with the fatal confrontation.
The deceased’s body was later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, the report stated.
The police said investigations were ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and establish the individual roles of those involved.
