Popular singer Rihanna has criticised Americans who did not participate in the 2024 presidential election, arguing that voter apathy contributed to Donald Trump’s return to the White House and the economic challenges facing the country.
The Barbadian-born music star made the remarks while reacting to a viral Instagram clip featuring a discussion involving journalist Charles M. Blow and former MSNBC host Joy Reid.
During the conversation, Reid suggested that Americans who voted for Trump should bear responsibility for the financial controversies surrounding his administration.
Reacting to the clip, Rihanna argued that those who stayed away from the polls also played a role in the election outcome.
“Believe it or not, those who didn’t vote at all also did this!” she wrote.
