A potentially fatal accident was averted on Wednesday morning after a loaded 40-foot container fell off a truck while climbing the Iganmu Bridge near Iveco, inward Orile, in Lagos State.
The incident occurred when the containerised Mack truck reportedly lost control while attempting to ascend the bridge, causing its heavily loaded container to fall onto the road and obstruct approximately 90 per cent of the carriageway.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the accident.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a post on its official X account, stating that its rescue team had been mobilised to the scene to manage the situation and facilitate the removal of the fallen container.

A video shared by the agency, reportedly recorded at about 5:27 a.m., showed emergency responders at the scene as evacuation efforts commenced.
Despite the significant obstruction caused by the fallen container, LASTMA reported that traffic was not affected at the time of its update.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers posed by heavy-duty vehicles on Lagos roads, particularly when transporting loaded containers across bridges and busy traffic corridors.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution around accident scenes and comply with instructions from traffic management officials.
