The Idoma Political and Patriotic Forum has commended Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia over the nomination of Agatu Local Government Area Chairman, Melvin James Ejeh, as the Benue State Coordinator of the Progressives Local Government Chairmen for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Alia.
The forum described the nomination as a significant development for the Idoma people, saying it demonstrated recognition and inclusion of the ethnic group in the state’s political affairs.
Ejeh’s nomination was communicated in a letter dated October 23, 2026, and signed by the organisation’s Director-General, Freedom Bassey.
According to the letter, the nomination received the backing of the Benue State leadership, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Benue State, and other key stakeholders.
The forum’s coordinator, Israel Apeh, said in a statement that the development showed Governor Alia’s willingness to recognise and accommodate the Idoma people.
Apeh noted that the nomination contradicted claims by some individuals that the governor was hostile towards the Idoma ethnic group.
The forum also appreciated the national and state leadership of the APC for their contributions to the nomination, describing it as a step towards strengthening political cooperation and promoting inclusiveness.
