Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued 27 kidnapped victims following a gun battle with suspected terrorists in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims, comprising 15 males and 12 females, were reportedly abducted from Gamji community before troops launched a rescue operation following a distress call on October 16, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops pursued the terrorists along the Gangare-Kamba axis and engaged them with superior firepower.
The military said the intense gun battle forced the assailants to abandon their captives and flee the scene.
All 27 victims were subsequently rescued unharmed during a search of the area.
Danja disclosed that the rescued individuals were profiled and handed over to community leaders for reunification with their families.
