Suspected terrorists, locally known as bandits, have attacked the Nasarawa area of Damba community on the outskirts of Gusau, Zamfara State, disrupting movement along the Gusau-Sokoto road and reportedly abducting travellers.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community around 1am and took strategic positions to prevent possible intervention from nearby areas.
A resident said the attackers jumped over her fence and entered her house while shooting sporadically. She said the gunmen later left without harming anyone, but several bullet marks were found around her compound.
Another resident said the attackers moved from house to house, knocking on doors and asking for specific individuals. When residents told them the people they were looking for were not present, the attackers reportedly began shooting and positioned themselves at strategic points.
The resident said the attackers initially discussed stealing livestock but abandoned the plan after discovering that some of the animals were located across the main road. They later moved towards a nearby school and targeted smaller animals in the Nasarawa area.
The attackers reportedly fled after personnel of the Civilian Joint Task Force and the police arrived and engaged them.

A resident also alleged that the attackers passed through an army security checkpoint in the area, accusing the checkpoint of failing to stop them.
Meanwhile, armed bandits reportedly blocked the Gusau-Sokoto road at Kuka Mairahhu in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving several travellers stranded.
One traveller said commuters were forced to park at a military base in Fangaltama after the attackers blocked both directions of the road.
Another female traveller said she was traumatised when her vehicle developed a fault while the road was blocked. She said that after travellers believed the road had reopened, two vehicles passed ahead of them but were later found abandoned with their doors open, with the occupants nowhere to be seen.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of motorists and residents along the Gusau-Sokoto highway.
