
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Plc has commenced an investigation into the death of one of its workers, Christian Kpabeke, who died while carrying out maintenance work on an electricity line.
Kpabeke, a High Tension (HT) Lines Worker in PHED’s Gamma 2 Region, reportedly died on Sunday, September 27, 2026, while working on the Greater Port Harcourt 33kV line.
PHED said the incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and other relevant stakeholders as investigations continue to determine what led to the worker’s death.
The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olubukola Ilevbare, expressed sadness over the incident and extended condolences to Kpabeke’s family, colleagues and loved ones.

According to the company, PHED has also contacted the deceased worker’s immediate family to offer condolences and support.
PHED urged the public and other stakeholders to remain patient as the investigation continues, promising to provide further updates based on its findings.
The electricity distribution company also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening safety standards and protecting the lives and wellbeing of its workers, contractors, customers and members of the public.
