Panic broke out in Onitsha, Anambra State, after a fully loaded petrol tanker caught fire at the Pillars Energy Filling Station near the Stock Exchange.
The incident occurred around 9:20pm on Monday, sending thick flames into the air and forcing motorists and nearby shop owners to keep away from the area over fears of a possible explosion.
The tanker reportedly caught fire shortly after the driver parked it, with part of the filling station also affected. The driver reportedly fled the scene as the fire intensified.

The Anambra State Fire Service quickly responded with two fire trucks and began efforts to contain the blaze and prevent further escalation.
The state fire service confirmed that no life was lost in the incident. Firefighters remained at the scene for hours to conduct safety checks and monitor the area.
Residents and motorists were urged to cooperate with emergency responders and give firefighters enough space to work.
