The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over separate allegations involving sexual abuse, child abuse, assault and the alleged unlawful procurement of abortion for a minor.
The suspects were brought before the court on Thursday following investigations into the different cases, according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
One of the suspects, Chinedu Chiekwu from Umuoli Village, was arraigned over the alleged defilement of an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.
Another suspect, Sunday Anele, is facing an allegation of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl, which allegedly resulted in pregnancy.
Ugochukwu Okereke was also arraigned over allegations that he lured a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush and sexually assaulted her.
Similarly, Ebuka Nwachukwu was accused of taking a six-year-old girl into his room at Okpoko, where he allegedly sexually abused the child.

The fifth suspect, Ogechi Ofoma from Awada, Obosi, was arraigned over allegations that she used a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma.
The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, was arraigned over an allegation concerning the unlawful procurement of an abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.
The police also provided an update on a 36-year-old woman who was allegedly involved in inappropriate sexual conduct with her child. Ikenga said the case had been investigated and the case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further legal action.
He added that the woman remained in police custody pending further proceedings.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from sexual abuse, exploitation, violence and other forms of harm.
He said the police would continue to ensure that victims and survivors receive appropriate protection and are treated with dignity and sensitivity throughout investigations and legal proceedings.
