A 26-year-old Internally Displaced Person (IDP) in Benue State, Rochas Mende, has appealed to individuals, government agencies and humanitarian organisations for assistance after losing his 23-year-old wife shortly after she gave birth to twins.
Mende, who hails from Tse Pen village in Guma Local Government Area, said his wife, Sember, died on September 9, 2026, after delivering their first children.
The couple had reportedly left their residence at the Ortese IDP camp and returned to their village to farm when Sember went into labour.
According to the grieving father, his wife delivered the first baby at about 7:45 p.m. and the second around 8 p.m. However, she later developed complications and complained of fever.

Mende said he attempted to get her to a hospital, but she died at about 10 p.m.
The newborn twins are currently at the Ortese IDP camp under the care of Mende’s elderly mother, who is reportedly unwell but continues to care for the babies.
Speaking about his situation, Mende said the loss of his wife and the responsibility of caring for the newborns had left him struggling to cope.
He therefore appealed to well-meaning Nigerians, humanitarian organisations and relevant authorities to come to his aid and support him and his newborn children during the difficult period.
