Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International has refunded N1,640,200 mistakenly transferred to an account linked to the church by a woman, Sandra Okpara.
Okpara had appealed for help on social media after discovering that she had sent the money to the wrong account.
She explained that the funds were not hers but were meant for payments she was expected to make. According to her, she had earlier transferred N1,000 as an offering before attempting to send more than N1.6 million to a Zenith Bank account.
However, she mistakenly selected the wrong account while making the larger transfer.
Okpara said she did not immediately notice the error until she checked the transaction receipt. She later contacted Zenith Bank and Moniepoint in an attempt to recover the money but was informed that further action would require a court order.
After her efforts failed, she turned to social media and appealed to the public to help trace the account that received the money.
The appeal eventually caught the attention of Streams of Joy International, which said it immediately began investigating the matter.
The church explained that Okpara had not contacted its official channels before releasing the video. However, after becoming aware of the situation, its team reached out to her through the phone number she provided and via direct message.

Following verification of the transaction, the church confirmed that the money belonged to Okpara and refunded the full amount. Streams of Joy International announced on Saturday that the money had been returned to her.
Okpara later confirmed that she received the refund at about 6:22 am after a staff member of the church contacted her.
She said her decision to make the matter public was not aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Pastor Jerry Eze or the church.
Okpara expressed relief over the recovery of the N1.64 million and said the social media appeal helped connect her with people who could resolve the issue.
