A fuel tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit has fallen at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra State, causing panic and obstructing traffic.
The incident occurred late on Thursday when the 40ft tanker reportedly lost control while navigating a bad portion of the road. A steering system failure was said to have contributed to the accident.
Although no injuries or casualties were recorded, the incident raised fears of a possible explosion among motorists, residents and roadside traders.
The affected lane was cordoned off as emergency responders moved to the scene to prevent a fire outbreak and facilitate the safe clearance of the road.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
