Three people have lost their lives while about 20 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road accident along the Ife-Ilesa Expressway in Osun State.
The crash occurred on Saturday in the Tonkere area of the expressway and involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a car, which reportedly collided head-on.
The Osun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Sunday Adebayo, confirmed the incident, saying the FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene about five minutes after the crash.
According to him, the accident was caused by excessive speeding and dangerous driving, warning motorists against behaviours that could result in avoidable loss of lives.
Adebayo disclosed that the deceased comprised two females and one male, while about 20 other passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees.

The injured victims were taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife and the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital for medical treatment. Some victims who sustained minor injuries were later discharged.
The FRSC commander said the vehicles involved had been moved to a nearby police station, while the road was cleared to allow normal traffic flow.
He urged motorists to reduce their speed, exercise caution and respect other road users, stressing that driving at a safer speed could significantly reduce fatalities when crashes occur.
“Excessive speeding is killing,” Adebayo warned, urging Nigerians to adopt safer driving habits and recognise that every road user has a responsibility to protect lives.
