Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operative in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Bubba Hamadu, was arrested at about 2:22 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, in Mairari town by troops attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Mairari, and CJTF personnel.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Hamadu underwent preliminary interrogation following his arrest. During the process, security personnel reportedly discovered a photograph on his mobile phone showing him alongside unidentified individuals carrying AK-47 rifles.
The discovery reportedly heightened suspicion of his alleged links to ISWAP elements operating in the area.

Security personnel also recovered a Tecno mobile phone, an umbrella, an arrow, prayer beads, a mirror and eye drops from the suspect.
Hamadu was subsequently transferred to the custody of Headquarters, Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, where further investigations are expected to determine the nature and extent of his alleged connection with the terrorist group.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details regarding the investigation.
