The Gombe State University (GSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Gombe State Government to address its outstanding demands or face a total and indefinite strike.
The union disclosed this in a statement jointly signed by its branch chairman, Dr Mustapha S. Shehu, and secretary, Dr Aliyu Usman Shelleng, following the report of the National Executive Council (NEC) visitation to the branch.
According to ASUU, the NEC has directed the branch to commence a comprehensive and indefinite strike if the government fails to resolve the grievances within the 14-day ultimatum.
The proposed industrial action is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Among the union’s demands is the payment of the 2021–2024 backlog of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), arrears of the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage awards, implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, and payment of N30,000 minimum wage arrears.

ASUU is also demanding the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement, enhanced postgraduate supervision allowance, and payment of teaching practice, industrial training and field trip allowances.
Other demands include enhanced responsibility allowances for academic staff.
The union said it had raised the issues with the state government several months ago and appealed for the outstanding entitlements to be settled to avert industrial action.
However, Dr Shehu said repeated efforts by the union’s leadership to engage the government over the unpaid entitlements had failed.
The development could disrupt academic activities at Gombe State University if the government fails to resolve the issues before the expiration of the ultimatum.
