A suspected electric cable thief has died after he was allegedly electrocuted while attempting to vandalise an electric cable in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident reportedly happened in Sintilmawa village along the Ringim-Dutse Road. Residents said the suspect was cutting an electric cable when electricity supply was suddenly restored, resulting in a fatal electric shock.
The man was said to have died instantly, and his body was later discovered at the scene alongside tools believed to have been used for the operation.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said officers responded to a distress call after a lifeless body was found along the Ringim-Sintilmawa Road.

According to the police, officers observed burn injuries on the deceased’s hands, chest and pelvic area. Hand gloves, a hacksaw and sacks were also recovered at the scene, strengthening suspicions that the man was attempting to steal electric cables when the incident occurred.
The body was taken to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed the victim dead. Police said efforts are ongoing to establish the deceased’s identity, while investigations into the incident continue.
The corpse has since been deposited at the Ringim General Hospital mortuary pending identification and further action.
