The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has begun an investigation into the death of Pastor Etetim Udo, founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries in Oron.
Police said they received a distress call on the morning of Thursday, July 23, from a resident who noticed an unusual gathering at the church premises. The caller reportedly told officers that the pastor’s children informed him their father had died.
According to the police, officers immediately responded to the scene and discovered the cleric’s body inside the church. The area was secured, documented, and processed by investigators, while exhibits considered relevant to the inquiry were recovered for forensic examination.
The body was evacuated to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed the pastor’s death. His remains have since been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John said preliminary findings suggest the death may have resulted from suicide. However, she stressed that investigators are conducting a full and impartial probe to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and rule out any other possibilities.
