Three suspected cultists have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command during an intelligence-led operation in the Imota area of Lagos State.
The operation followed credible information from members of the public about the activities of suspected cultists in the community.
According to the police, officers arrested three suspects identified as Jelili Adeyemo, 37, who was alleged to be the group’s armourer, Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60.
Items recovered during the operation included a Beretta pistol, a locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, a stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses and other weapons.
Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspects to the Aiye Confraternity. Police also alleged that the recovered Beretta pistol belonged to a wanted cultist known as “Mayibone,” who remains at large.
The suspects have since been arraigned in court and remanded, while efforts continue to arrest other fleeing members of the group and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state. He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
