Family members, colleagues, friends and supporters gathered in Ketu, Lagos, on Tuesday to bid farewell to the late Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya.
The burial attracted a large crowd, with mourners paying their final respects in emotional scenes captured in videos shared on social media.
Ajiboye died after succumbing to gunshot injuries he sustained when unidentified gunmen attacked his vehicle in the Fadeyi area of Lagos on Sunday evening.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that an investigation had commenced and that efforts were underway to track down those responsible for the killing.
According to police spokesperson CSP Abimbola Adebisi, the attack claimed Ajiboye’s life while detectives intensified efforts to arrest the assailants.
Sources familiar with the incident said the deceased had visited Fadeyi to see childhood friends before he was ambushed while leaving the area.

Witnesses said he was rushed to a hospital after the shooting and initially showed signs of recovery before he later died from his injuries.
A member of the transport union disclosed that three other occupants of Ajiboye’s vehicle were also hit by gunfire during the attack and remained hospitalised in critical condition.
Photographs released after the incident showed the union leader’s vehicle riddled with bullet holes, highlighting the intensity of the attack.
Reacting to the tragedy, Lagos State NURTW Chairman, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, described Ajiboye as a loyal ally, trusted friend and dedicated union leader whose commitment to the organisation would be remembered.
Meanwhile, Ajiboye’s death has continued to spark mixed reactions online, with many mourning him as a community benefactor while others pointed to longstanding controversies surrounding transport union politics in Lagos.
Police have yet to establish the motive behind the attack as investigations continue.
