Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has officially signed a long-term contract to become the new head coach of the France national team.
Zidane will succeed Didier Deschamps, whose tenure ended after France’s defeat to England in the third-place playoff at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The French Football Federation (FFF) had reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Zidane in November 2025, with the deal now finalized following Deschamps’ departure.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the appointment on X, stating that Zidane had already signed his contract and that the agreement had never been in doubt despite interest from several clubs.
The appointment marks Zidane’s return to football management after his successful spell with Real Madrid, where he won multiple major trophies, including three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.
The former France captain now takes charge of Les Bleus as they begin preparations for future international competitions.
