The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has alleged that three herders were killed in an ആക്രമation reportedly carried out by suspected Berom militias in Riyom Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the state chairman of MACBAN, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the incident occurred in Tanjol village on July 19, 2026.
He disclosed that the victims were attacked while grazing their cattle, resulting in the death of three young herders and leaving two others critically injured.
Babayo identified the deceased as Abdurrazak Abdullahi (22), Husaini Idris (23), and Yusuf Tukur (19), while the injured victims—Ayuba Adam and Sadi Adamu—are currently receiving treatment. He added that one cow was killed and another wounded during the attack.
The association described the incident as unprovoked, noting that preliminary reports indicated the herders were grazing peacefully and had not encroached on any farmland at the time of the attack.

MACBAN expressed concern that such incidents could escalate tensions in the state, warning against actions or statements that might incite reprisals. The group emphasized the need for caution amid conflicting narratives surrounding the incident.
The association called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Operation Safe Haven, to carry out a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation to uncover the facts and bring perpetrators to justice.
Babayo also urged community leaders, organizations, and the media to avoid inflammatory remarks while investigations are ongoing, stressing that lasting peace in Plateau requires dialogue, justice, and accountability from all parties.
He reaffirmed MACBAN’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to prevent further violence.
