
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has earned widespread praise from former teammates, colleagues and football figures for his leadership and tactical expertise after guiding La Roja to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Spain booked their place in the final with a convincing 2-0 victory over France, moving within one match of lifting the World Cup trophy for only the second time in the nation’s history.
Since taking charge of the Spanish national team in December 2022, De la Fuente has overseen one of the country’s most successful periods in recent years. Under his leadership, Spain won the 2023 UEFA Nations League, lifted the UEFA Euro 2024 title and reached the 2025 Nations League final before their impressive World Cup campaign.

Former Sevilla teammate Manolo Jimenez described De la Fuente as a hardworking coach who has earned every achievement through dedication and perseverance. He praised his passion for developing young players and said it was rewarding to see him reach the pinnacle of Spanish football.
Former Spanish Football Federation vice-president Tito Blanco also applauded the decision to appoint De la Fuente as national team coach, describing him as a man of strong character and insisting the federation made the right choice by promoting him to the senior team.
Spain Under-21 coach Santi Denia, who worked alongside De la Fuente for more than a decade, credited the coach’s exceptional man-management skills and deep understanding of players progressing through Spain’s youth system. He said De la Fuente knows how to motivate individuals and successfully manage the large support staff around the national team.
Former Spain captain Fernando Hierro highlighted the positive atmosphere within the squad, noting that De la Fuente has built a united dressing room where players enjoy spending time together an important factor during the demanding World Cup tournament.
Spain will now aim to crown their remarkable journey by defeating Argentina in the World Cup final and securing another historic title under De la Fuente’s leadership.
