The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has dismissed allegations that Fulani groups have forcefully taken over several communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The reaction follows claims by social critic Emmanuel Jelan, who alleged in an open letter to Governor Caleb Mutfwang that about 16 communities in the area have been either fully or partially occupied by suspected terrorists.
According to him, residents of the affected villages have been displaced, losing access to their homes, farmlands, schools, healthcare facilities, and places of worship due to ongoing security fears.
However, MACBAN, in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Plateau State Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, described the allegations as unfounded and misleading. The association insisted that no part of the state is under occupation by Fulani groups.
MACBAN cautioned against making unverified claims on sensitive security matters, warning that such narratives could escalate tensions and disrupt ongoing peace efforts in the state.

“The allegations are unsubstantiated and lack credible evidence,” the statement noted. “We categorically reject any claim suggesting that Fulani communities have unlawfully taken over lands in Plateau State. Such generalizations do not reflect the reality of lawful pastoral activities across the region.”
The association further expressed concern over the timing of the allegations, noting that they could deepen divisions and fuel misunderstanding among communities already facing security challenges.
MACBAN reiterated its commitment to peaceful coexistence and urged individuals with credible evidence of wrongdoing to report to appropriate security agencies rather than making sweeping accusations.
The group also called on stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, responsible communication, and mutual respect to ensure lasting peace and stability in Plateau State.
