Emergency responders arrived to find the building, which housed six shops and one kiosk, engulfed in flames. Through a coordinated firefighting operation, they brought the blaze under control, limiting the damage to a single kiosk while preventing the fire from spreading to the six adjoining shops.
Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, praised the firefighters for their swift response and professionalism, noting that their prompt intervention helped avert major property losses.
He advised residents and business owners to ensure electrical wiring is handled by qualified professionals, switch off electrical appliances when they are not in use, and install surge protection devices to reduce the risk of fires caused by power fluctuations.
