The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally fabricated pistol during a coordinated security operation in Ilorin, the state capital.
The suspect, identified as Agboola Olamilekan, was apprehended in an intelligence-led operation carried out by police operatives in collaboration with other security agencies and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit.
He was reportedly found in possession of the firearm at the point of arrest.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation is part of the command’s ongoing strategy to combat cult-related activities and curb the spread of illegal weapons across the state.
She noted that the police remain committed to proactive, intelligence-driven policing aimed at dismantling criminal networks and preventing them from operating within Kwara State.
“The operation forms part of our sustained efforts to disrupt cultism, reduce the proliferation of illegal firearms, and deny criminal elements the space to thrive,” she stated.

Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the suspect and the wider criminal network.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ojo Adekimi, reaffirmed the command’s determination to intensify its crackdown on cultism and other violent crimes.
He emphasized that security agencies will continue to sustain operational momentum to ensure public safety.
He added that each successful operation brings the state closer to dismantling criminal groups and strengthening security through strategic partnerships and intelligence-led policing.
The latest arrest adds to a series of recent breakthroughs recorded by the command in its ongoing efforts to combat cultism and illegal arms possession within Ilorin and surrounding areas.
