To reduce the risk of incidents, supporters of both teams will enter Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium through separate gates. However, officials acknowledged that complete fan separation inside the stadium cannot be guaranteed because of ticket resales.
The rivalry between England and Argentina extends beyond football, with tensions rooted in the 1982 Falklands War. Political tensions have also resurfaced in recent days following renewed comments by Argentine officials over the disputed islands.
Despite the heightened security concerns, Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni urged fans to view the encounter strictly as a football match.
He described England as a strong opponent and stressed that the semi-final should not be influenced by political issues.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Police Department said it had increased security across the city, deploying additional officers and resources around the stadium, entertainment districts and other busy locations to ensure the safety of residents and visiting supporters.
The winner of Wednesday’s semi-final will advance to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where either Spain or France awaits.
